A JSON page formatted in Safari on the Mac

The full source of Advanced JSON Viewer 2.3, live on the App Store as a universal purchase for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro. One Xcode project builds the iOS and macOS apps and their Safari web extensions from shared code.

What it does

  • Detects JSON pages in Safari and replaces them with a formatted, syntax-highlighted Ace editor, with a toggle back to the raw text
  • 43 editor themes, with separate light and dark themes that follow the system
  • Font size, tab width, invisible characters, and editing with on-device syntax checking
  • Saves the edited JSON as a file; the app opens and saves JSON files from the device
  • Opens raw files from GitHub in the viewer
  • A settings popup in Safari's toolbar

Tests

Playwright integration tests run the extension's production JS, CSS and bundled Ace in a real browser, with Safari's extension APIs simulated.

Not included

Release scripts and App Store listing text.

Before you ship anything

Replace the bundle IDs (com.acrogenesis.advanced-json-viewer), the Apple team ID, and the feedback email and App Store review link in popup.html.

What the license allows

You can use and change the code for your own internal use, including private builds for your team through MDM, Apple Business Manager custom apps or TestFlight internal testing. You can also copy parts of it into your own apps, extensions and services, as long as they aren't a JSON viewer, formatter or editor, or a browser extension that displays JSON.

What you can't do

  • Publish Advanced JSON Viewer or anything built from it as a JSON viewer, formatter or editor, or a browser extension that displays JSON, on the App Store, an extension gallery, or any other public channel.
  • Share, resell, sublicense or re-list the source code, or push it to a public repository.
  • Use the Advanced JSON Viewer name, logo, icons, screenshots or store listing, or suggest that we endorse your product.

The full terms are in LICENSE, which ships with every release and is governed by Texas law. Ace stays under its own BSD license.

Services you'll need

To run it, you'll need an account with each of these, or to host them yourself.

License

What you can do with the code, from the LICENSE file in its newest release.

Advanced JSON Viewer Source Code License
Copyright (c) 2026 Acrogenesis LLC. All rights reserved.

This license covers the Advanced JSON Viewer source code you bought from
Acrogenesis LLC ("we", "us"). "You" means the person who bought it or, when
bought for a company, that company together with its employees and contractors
working on its behalf. "The Software" means the source code, assets, and
documentation in each release you received, and anything you build or derive
from them.

1. What you may do

You may use, study, modify, and build the Software, forever, for:

   a. Internal use. You may run the Software, and give builds of it to your
own employees and contractors through channels the public cannot
reach, such as MDM, Apple Business Manager custom apps, TestFlight
internal testing, or an internal download page.

   b. Your own products. You may copy portions of the Software into an
application, extension, or service of your own, and distribute that
product publicly, as long as the product is not one described in
      section 2b.

2. What you may not do

   a. Share or resell the source. You may not publish, sell, sublicense,
list on a marketplace, or otherwise give the source code, in whole or
in part, to anyone outside you, except as section 1 allows.

   b. Ship a competing app. You may not distribute to the public, through an
app store, extension gallery, or any other channel, the Software or a
product built from it that is a JSON viewer, formatter, or editor, or
a browser extension that displays JSON, or that otherwise competes
      with Advanced JSON Viewer.

   c. Use our brand. You may not use the Advanced JSON Viewer name, logo,
icons, screenshots, or store listings, or suggest that we endorse your
product. Replace the bundle identifiers and signing team with your own
before you build anything for distribution.

3. Keep it confidential

Keep the source code private, and keep it out of public repositories.
You may share it with contractors and service providers, including
AI coding tools, that need it to work for you, if they are bound to
   keep it confidential.

4. Releases and updates

A one-time purchase covers the release you bought and the earlier releases
you received. A subscription also covers each release published while it
is active. Cancelling a subscription does not take away releases you
   already received.

5. Third-party code

The Software includes open-source components, such as the Ace editor in
Shared (Extension)/Resources, under the BSD license in its file headers,
and the development packages listed in package.json. Each one stays under
its own license, which governs that component over this one.

6. Ending this license

This license ends automatically if you break it. When it ends, stop using
the Software, delete every copy, and stop distributing anything built from
it. Sections 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9 survive the end of this license.

7. No warranty

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR
IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A
   PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

8. Limit of liability

TO THE EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT,
INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS OR DATA,
ARISING FROM THE SOFTWARE OR THIS LICENSE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY IS LIMITED
TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE.

9. Governing law

The laws of the State of Texas govern this license, without regard to
its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute about it will be resolved in the
state or federal courts located in Texas, and you agree to their
   jurisdiction.

Everything not granted here is reserved. For any other use, contact
